We don’t normally enter speculative design contests but every once in awhile one comes along where the subject matter is near and dear to our hearts. So we entered this design in BCSLA’s call for entries and were selected for the finals but did not win in the end.
One of the ideas behind our design was to open up all the letter forms so that there is no closed negative space. We imagine it like a design element in the landscape as seen from above in which all of it could be moved through and interacted with. There is no hidden, wasted space inside the B and A because two of the things landscape architects do is make the most out of the available space and take advantage of the “borrowed landscape” – those spaces beyond control but in view.
